About Me
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my profile. I feel incredibly proud and honoured to call myself a Registered Nurse. I have a profound respect and admiration for the profession of nursing and have aspired to become a Registered Nurse from an early age. My journey to obtaining this professional certification was not without significant personal challenge and sacrifice; however, it was that adversity which helped to deepen my empathy and foster a greater sense of connectedness with both patients and colleagues.
My background includes extensive experience in an Operating Room in Northern Alberta, where I have worked in a variety of roles. My current position in Alberta Health Services is as a Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE). In this position I mentor and teach other nurses in clinical processes and best practices, facilitate perioperative courses, provide hands-on, in-the-moment teaching, and collaborate with other site Clinical Nurse Educators on facility-wide training. I am continually working towards growth as a leader and strive to serve as a positive role model to others.
Previously I have held positions as an Operating Room Clinical Coordinator, a Staff Nurse in the Operating Room, the Post-Anesthetic Care Unit, Day Surgery, and in Preoperative Teaching. In addition, I have worked in Long-Term Care and secure dementia units.
Beyond my professional role, I am also a happily married mother of two neurodiverse children, who represent my greatest strength, and my greatest challenge. Currently I am away from work as I recover from a major, life-altering surgery- an experience which has further contributed to my understanding of what it means to be a vulnerable patient and to overcome personal adversity.
My nursing values are rooted in a strong sense of moral obligation towards the public, a commitment to ethically safe practice, and the promotion of patient advocacy.
The role of my portfolio is to showcase my contributions to the academic nursing community, while also serving as a tool to monitor my personal development and growth throughout the Master of Nursing: Generalist Program.
