Since my favorite Web 2.0 tool that I listed in our group discussion is Wiki's, specifically Wikipedia, I think it is appropriate to define Web 2.0 by citing my favorite source.
"The term Web 2.0 is associated with web applications that facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design,[1] and collaboration on the World Wide Web. A Web 2.0 site allows users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators (prosumers) of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where users (consumers) are limited to the passive viewing of content that was created for them. Examples of Web 2.0 include social networking sites, blogs, wikis, video sharing sites, hosted services, web applications, mashups and folksonomies." Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0.
What is it really?
Actually when I started this unit, I did not have a clear concept of what Web 2.0 was. Of course after I did the readings and a little bit of research of my own I have a much better understanding of the so called "buzz word".
Here's a presentation I came across from Andy Budd, the explained Web 2.0 quite concisely.
