Journey’s End

What is Success?

The e-portfolio has provided me with the opportunity to learn and develop my research and writing skills.  Furthermore I believe that I have acquired a better understanding of the pressures that often come with effectively creating a strategic plan. It is most certainly a very time consuming process, to create a strategic plan that clearly outlines the true vision and benefits of the proposed endeavor.

Throughout the years, I have reflected positively on the knowledge and skills that I have acquired. There is no doubt in my mind that I will continue to apply this valuable knowledge, which in return has assisted me in both my academic and professional life.

I must confess that I often take for granted how much value that I have gained from this assignment, and many others for that matter. When I take the time to truly reflect on my experiences, only then is it realized that I have accomplished a great deal.

I must admit that I often questioned myself as to why I wanted to venture out on this long journey towards the attainment of the masters academic credentials for Master of Education (Distance Education).  There really is no simple answer to this question, mainly because the benefits are so great and plentiful in nature.

From day one I always had several learning goals in mind, which I believe have been successfully achieved:

  1. I have had the opportunity to critically evaluate distance education theory and pedagogy, through course content and great course facilitation and meaningful peer collaboration. This was achieved through the application of course learning and peer interactions, via discussion forums.
  2. I have found many ways to apply distance education knowledge and design within my occupation, including the development of training materials, stakeholder engagement and interaction, as well as critical evaluation of learning and business systems and processes.
  3. I have learned that the success of delivering distance education content is often related to eliminating isolation. Throughout my journey I always felt support was an email, discussion forum, or interactive online session away.
  4. From course design to managing a distance education program, I have learned that distance education is dynamic and can accommodate a plethora of learning styles, transcending the traditional class room setting. This includes online synchronous learning, as well as traditional printed text book style. Each serves individual needs that suit a variety of learning styles.

Final Thoughts

I have learned a lot about myself during my journey, including just how much I really enjoy learning. As I move on to other pursuits and challenges that life has to offer, I will do so with the fondest of memories that I have in learning about distance education, as well as learning about the person I am now, and the potential that I have. Education is an empowering force that really can facilitate personal growth, while also developing productive and happy communities. I will continue down the path of "lifelong learning". Like many other adult students, I have been challenged with home and family commitments; however, the investment in time and hard work is well worth it.

Again, I wish to express my gratitude for such a wonderful opportunity to grow as a student, father, husband and contributing member of my community.

Dillon,

Consider resequencing your text blocks and your photos. It seems to me that "What a Success" should be the first element on the page. Also, you need to discuss the extent to which you attained the learning goals from the Introduction.

The images appear a bit large for the page. Consider web page design principles when you are formatting the page.

And again, proofread carefully.

 Hi Dillon,

Thanks for making those changes that Susan recommended. There now seems to be a lot of white space above and below the image - see if you can reduce this.

Then in your first line, where you write "This assignment was another artifact that afforded me the opportunity to learn" - which assignment are you talking about?

There are also a couple of typos that you should correct ("to learn and development", "during my participation [?] this assignment.", "I have gleamed from this assignment, " and then this page will be good to go.

Thanks!

Debra

Hmm - you seem to have introduced just a couple of new typos now "though [through?] course content, " and "home and family commitment[s]; however[,] "

Thanks for responding to my other earlier comments.

Debra
