What is Cloud Computing?
Cloud computing is the occurrence of accessing the Internet to access information, files, movies, video, music etc. Cloud computing also refers to the ability of accessing, upload, downloading, maintain files from any location via the Internet.
Initial Thoughts
I have been slightly exposed to cloud computing prior to this course by means of my students. I instruct a computer applications course where my f-2-f students are required to build a PowerPoint presentation on new technology. One group choose google docs as their topic. Their demonstration was fantastic and they provided great examples of how they use google docs amoung their team members.
I realized how this Cloud computing could benefit how I manage my files. Many times I have information stored on my USB storage device and leave in my office or at home making it impossible to access the file. My storing my information online (web-based) I can eliminate this problem.
Learned Concepts
- Microsoft, Apple, Google is one the major players in cloud computing.
- Cloud computing allows for large file sharing to take place.
- Using Cloud Computing to back up your data.
Concluding Thoughts
The following is a response that I made in the Discussion forum for the Cloud Computing unit. This is my response to the reliability of servers and explains how I use this technology in my classes.
"Hi Ryhon, I agree with you comment on lack of speed and unreliable servers. Our institution often experiences these types of issues resulting faculty and students the inability to access files save on the network. Since our program is becoming more and more reliant on electronic documents this lag and delay often causes students to be very frustrated and impatient. Often I save files to dropbox to avoid such issues".
